If you know what the latter of the title means, then the former is a nearly taboo territory. It should not be, nobody is going to say anything about it anyway, and it is something that can help people when other things fail.
The DSM-5 is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. It s a massive collection of "evidence-based" (meaning it has been shown to work in a variety of patients in a variety of conditions and has been proven to work).
As my application sits before the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia for approval, which it will as everything needed is present in their lap, to take the next step on the professional level from being in the recovery field only, which is viewed as important or not important depending on the state, to that of a counselor who can have clients from day one intake as people with existing "addiction" issues right on through recovery if they so desire. And I could do this independently and not have to depend on practices any longer as was the case in recovery.
Well, that is all fine and dandy but there are limits in modern accepted ways in which some people need a little bit more.
They need the part of me that is no longer separated from the clinical side because it is a mystical and highly spiritual life.
I am not trying to say that a clinical session suddenly needs some change in room layout, or that there will be any "woo-woo" that one may conjure in their mind about what I am saying, but it would be that I believe them when they talk about their relationship with a special tree or even a spirit.
I believe they believe and therefore in a defaco way in the mix on this, but the truth is I really am. I have been doing work outside the box longer than in it, and while in it I have learned a lot, but where I learn the most is by listening to people. If what they are saying is "crazy" or "people might think I am nuts"....who cares?
You believe it and it is your choice to do that and not their's to manage in the first place.
Of course, everything says more or less on the tracks, but the destination and the answers on how to get there, are not always on the mainline. They sometimes are not in the normal place at all but rather the paranormal.
